MSL Focused Technology Significant Events: Aug. 2004 - Engine Development

JPL-led Engine Development team has successfully completed fabrication and integration of a proof-of-concept 3000N thrust throttleable engine designated to be the descent engine for the Mars Science Laboratory mission. Aerojet, a GenCorp Company based in Redmond, Washington, is responsible for the engine assembly, integration, and test. Moog, Inc. of East Aurora, New York, provided the throttle valve. Hot-fire testing is scheduled for 13 September 2004.
